As we enter into the fourth quarter of 2008 and I suspect well into the future, it is clearly the economy at the forefront of our collective concerns. Clearly if we do not sustain financial viability then there is no need to worry about security and no funds to afford it! Regardless of the noble aspirations and promises of our political leaders the U.S. economy is driven by capitalism and Adam Smiths’ “invisible hand” and I for one believe strongly in capitalism’s ability to heal itself given aggressive competition and maximizing the use of available resources.

This being said there are certain constants in society that will not disappear and are not subject to government control. From a business/security perspective consider the historical fact that “the economic health of a nation has a substantial affect on morality in terms of crime and obtaining the perceived necessities of life.” Robberies, thefts, embezzlement and all economic crimes rapidly rise when our economy is struggling. Notwithstanding our domestic and foreign terrorist enemies who view our economic woes as opportunities to further disrupt. . .

As a businessman, law-enforcement and security professional my part is to assist business in protecting assets & personnel, minimize loss, identify problems, and keep personnel honest amidst this hopefully short-lived recession.

I am of the opinion as an American business owner that we all share an inherent responsibility to never abuse our economy and always use resources efficiently and price competitively. In our industry which I view as playing an all-important supportive role to retail and commerce, performance must be unquestionable and at all times reflect the lowest market prices available. To proceed to the contrary is naïve, unpatriotic and the consequences will be self-evident.
